Three kinds of San Diego house, three kinds of job
The pre-war districts, the mid-century suburbs and the tile-roof stock from the 1970s onward produce different inspections. In Mission Hills, Kensington, Talmadge and North Park the houses are Craftsman and Spanish revival on raised foundations, with clay tile or open rafter eaves and a canyon at the back fence, so the list runs from the bird stop to the foundation vents. In Clairemont, Serra Mesa and Point Loma the 1950s ranches have open eaves and finger canyons between the streets. In Scripps Ranch, Tierrasanta and the newer suburbs the houses are stucco under concrete tile, and a missing or crushed eave closure is the entry.
The coast adds its own pressure. La Jolla, Pacific Beach and Ocean Beach carry older cottages under dense mature landscaping and palms, and the surrounding cities from Coronado to Oceanside each have an older core and a newer edge.
